In the same way people can incorrectly assume heat pumps don't work in the UK solar thermal or solar hot water suffers from much the same bias. This well established technology has been popular in Europe for several decades and only now are we starting to catch up.
According to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) heating is responsible for around half of energy consumption. At the recent Solar & Storage show in London Solar Heat Europe said they believe the emissions saving of this established technology is underestimated. Consequently they believe the UK should have a solar heat target like our neighbours Germany, Denmark and Austria to catalyse its adoption.
